Katrina made landfall as an 80mph, Category I hurricane during the evening of August 25, 2005. The eye crossed the Florida coast between Hallandale and North Miami Beach. The damage in Florida was quite severe for a Category I storm, with early estimates approaching $2 Billion. After landfall, Katrina took an unexpected WSW track across the extreme southern portion of the peninsula. As a result, there was minimal weakening of the storm overland, setting the stage for an even greater disaster in the Gulf Of Mexico...
